The application portal will be activated on 01.01.2025 and closed on 28.02.2025!

Prerequisites are prior knowledge of ballet and contemporary dance as well as improvisation. You should also be physically fit and be able to enchant people with your ability to express yourself in dance and your musicality.

  • Dance background in the subjects of ballet, contemporary dance and improvisation at the level required for the bachelor programme
  • Admissions to the BA Dance Programme, according to Sec. 18 (1) (2) (12) S?chsHSFG, requires that the applicant has earned a school-leaving certificate from a secondary or senior secondary school or has an entrance qualification recognised to be equivalent to such and a particular artistic aptitude.

Enrollment is preceded by an admissions procedure. This consists of an online video aptitude test and an on-site entrance exam. After passing the online video aptitude test, the entrance exam takes place on site in Dresden.

Application steps:

Applications will only be considered if all required documents and videos have been submitted in full by February 28, 2025 at the latest.

The result of the online video aptitude test will be communicated to the applicants via the application portal by March 22nd, 2025 at the latest.

Only after passing the online video aptitude test there will be an entrance exam, which will take place from May 2nd to 4th, 2025 in Dresden. The result of the entrance exam will be communicated after the exam. If you fail the exam, you can access the notification of exclusion with the reason via the application portal no later than six weeks after the entrance exam.

The entrance exam consists of training units in classical dance, modern dance, contemporary dance and improvisation. The aim is to get to know all applicants personally and to assess their artistic suitability, receptiveness and English language skills.

The result of the admission procedure will be communicated to the applicants via the application portal - in the case of a rejection with reasons and information on legal remedies - no later than six weeks after the entrance examination.

 

The following documents are to be submitted by the enrolment date at the latest:

  • Language certificate proving an English level B1 (The following language certificates are recognised: Cambridge Certificate: Preliminary English Test (PET), TOEFL (iBT), IELTS, UNICERT (not applicable for native English-speaking applicants).
  • Submission of a doctor’s certificate certifying the particular endurance in regard to admission to a dance study programme as preparation for a professional career
  • Certified copy of the most recent general educational school-leaving certificate
  • Proof of health insurance
  • Proof of payment of the semester tuition

Knowledge of the English language (at least at reference level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)). The following language certificates are recognised: Cambridge Certificate: Preliminary English Test (PET), TOEFL (iBT), IELTS, UNICERT (not applicable for native English-speaking applicants).

 

Please submit all documents and video links exclusively via the Palucca University application portal!

The application portal will be activated on January 1st, 2025 and will close on February 28, 2025!

Before the applicant’s self-registration in the application portal, the following documents must exist digitally so that they can then be uploaded in the application portal.

  • A tabular resume (CV) with precise information regarding your previous education (in PDF format)
  • One passport photo (JPG format)
  • Two to three dance photos (JPG format)
  • Proof of having paid the application fee of 50.00 EUR (receipt in PDF format, Bank details under application fees)
  • If appropriate, evidence concerning your study periods to date as well as results of your studies or tests (in PDF format)

Please take the following into consideration when providing video links over the application portal:

  • The application videos need to be uploaded to an appropriate platform, such as, e.g., YouTube or Vimeo
  • The application videos should present skills in modern/contemporary dance, classical dance and improvisation. Please submit four individual video links through the portal:

Ballet video (max 5 min): Class work

1 – short exercise to show   use of turnout, foot/ankle mobility, knee extension and proportions: back to the barre , bare feet , no skirts

2 – grand plié in 1st , 2nd and 5th positions in profile on both sides, Exercises 3, 4, 5 and 6 either on demi-pointe for the Male Track and on pointe for the Female Track* 

3 – center practice – adagio including:

  • 1 promenade on each leg
  • developpés devant, à la seconde and derrière on both sides
  • 1 grand pirouette on  both sides

4 – center practice – tendu-pirouettes including:

  • Both en dehors and en dedans turns on both sides
  • At least three connecting steps such as glissade, pas de bourrée, piqué, pas marché, etc.

5 – petit allegro

  • Including at least 3 of following steps on both sides: assemblé, glissade, jeté, sissone, brisé, temps de cuisse.

6 – grand allegro

  • Short simple combination across the floor including at least 2 of following steps on both sides: grand jeté (with battement or developpé), jeté en tournant/entrelacé, saut de Basque.

Repertoire (1-2min): Please include a video of a classical repertoire variation.

* The classes refer to the traditional repertoire of classical dance involved and not the gender or gender identity of the dancers.

For better understanding:

Dancers applying to the Male Track will be doing  ballet class on demi-pointe with a focus in batterie and allegro, the lifting role in pas de deux and dancing traditionally male roles in variations classes and repertoire.

Dancers applying to the Female Track will be doing  ballet class with a focus on pointe work, being lifted/supported and on pointe in pas de deux classes and dancing traditionally female roles in variations classes and repertoire.

Improvisation Video (1-2min):

Theme: Contrast! Show contrast using 2 of the following aspects: speed, levels, space, emotion. The improvisation video can be recorded with or without music.

Contemporary Video (max 3min): 

 Phrase work and or repertoire including:

  1. mobilization and articulation of the spine
  2. awareness of planes and levels
  3. two different ways to go to the floor and back up
  4. floorwork combination
